A Note from Maureen: I remember standing in my kitchen talking to my daughter and casually running my hand through my hair. As I pulled my hand away from my head, there it was – the first clump of hair that had fallen out from chemo. I guess it was no surprise, right? Everyone said it would happen, and I had even bought a wig the week before in preparation. And so it began… and you know what? I just started joking about it. “Work is driving me so crazy that I’m pullin’ my hair out!” My daughter was watching me, so part of me was trying to be strong. But the other part of me really began to embrace it. What was the point in wallowing in it. My hair would be back. No sense getting upset; I couldn’t change anything. Meanwhile, I had to have the chemo in order to fight the cancer. Might as well try to have some fun with it.
